The mission of the New York Police and Fire Widows’ & Children’s Benefit Fund is to provide financial assistance and a network of support to the families of New York City Police Officers (NYPD), Firefighters (FDNY), Port Authority Police (PAPD), and EMS Workers (FDNY) who have been killed in the line of duty. Our goal is to raise enough funds to assist these families for the rest of their lives.
Dear Friends,
When our brave first responders make the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, it is our privilege to be there to help and support the families they left behind. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, we were once again able to make a meaningful difference in the lives of the families of our fallen heroes. Below are some examples of the support we were able to provide in 2016:
- Assisted nearly 600 families who lost a loved one in the line of duty while serving our city
- Distributed over $3.5 million dollars to the families of our fallen NYC first responders
- Launched our Take Our Kids to Work Day Program, pairing children of fallen first responders with professionals working in their dream careers for the day
- Hosted our first Female Empowerment Luncheon for the women served by our organization
- Hosted our Annual Holiday Party to provide our widows and widowers with an opportunity to come together to connect and enjoy one another’s friendship.
- Hosted our 32nd Annual Game and Family Day at Citi Field. Julian Davis (son of fallen PAPD Officer Clinton Davis), Brian Harlin (son of fallen FDNY firefighter Daniel Harlin), and Kelly Talty (daughter of fallen NYPD Officer Paul Talty) threw out the first pitch in honor of their heroic fathers and in honor of all first responders who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty. Hundreds of family members of our fallen first responders attended as our guests and enjoyed the game, as well as our pre-game reception, where there was plenty of food, giveaways, and fun activities for the kids.
