Meet our 2026 TCS NYC Marathon Team: Jacob Shul

After graduating from college in 2024, Jacob was looking for something to fill the competitive void left by years of playing football and lacrosse. That’s when he got into running. What started as a new challenge quickly turned into a passion, and last summer, he completed his first marathon in Pennsylvania.

Now, Jacob is getting ready to take on the 2026 TCS New York City Marathon with Team Answer the Call. Coming from a family of firefighters, including a father who recently retired from the fire service, supporting the first responder community has always been important to him. When he was looking for a marathon team, Answer the Call immediately stood out as a way to give back while taking on a race he had always wanted to run.

Training hasn’t been without its challenges. As a law student, Jacob is constantly balancing classes, studying, and finding time to get all of his miles in each week. When runs get tough, he thinks back to his first marathon, when his dad was there cheering him on around mile 20. That memory still helps push him through difficult training days.

When he’s not running or studying, Jacob enjoys traveling and reading. Through this race, he hopes to honor his father and the entire first responder community. And after crossing the finish line in November? He’s hoping to celebrate with his mom’s chicken parm and pasta—if she can bring it all the way from Buffalo!
