Danielle Keener is proud to be running her very first marathon with Team Answer the Call this November!
Danielle began running in 2022, inspired by her family and a desire to take part in races that honor military members and first responders. Over time, running also became a way for her to clear her mind and work through her thoughts. It has been an important outlet for both her physical and mental well-being. She has completed several half marathons, including the Michael Murphy Half (twice), the Rockaway Beach Half, and the New York City Half. She is excited to take on the challenge of the TCS New York City Marathon for the very first time.
The biggest hurdle for Danielle will be pushing past the distance she is used to. While half marathons feel familiar, the idea of running for four hours straight is something new. Still, she remains focused and determined. Danielle stays motivated by reminding herself of the bigger picture. “I’m grateful that I have the ability to run,” she says, “especially when I think about those who gave their lives in service.”
Danielle will be running solo, with just her music keeping her company. She listens to high-energy EDM and dance tracks to keep her pace up, along with a mix of 70s and 80s rock namely, Nickelback. “I’m all over the place with my music. Anything that gets me going,” she said, “No country. Too slow!”Outside of running, she enjoys knitting and baking fresh bread. Her favorite post-run meal is Greek chicken meatballs with rice and zucchini.
Danielle first discovered Answer the Call while browsing the TCS New York City Marathon fundraiser page. She knew she wanted to run for a cause that supports military and first responder families, and Answer the Call immediately stood out. With family members who are first responders, the mission of the organization felt deeply personal.
“To the families of fallen first responders: there are always people thinking of you,” Danielle shared. “There is always a light at the end of the tunnel. Those you have lost are still with you. We all love you.”
