Jack Corry can’t wait to run the TCS New York City Marathon this November, representing Answer the Call.
Jack grew up as an endurance athlete. Being a rower in high school, he often ran for training to stay in shape, and throughout college, he continued to run to stay fit. In the past years, following an ankle injury, Jack has taken running back up and has decided to pursue the New York City Marathon. This is Jack’s first marathon running the entirety of it, but he has completed a marathon (walking portions of it and running others) with an Army program in college, alongside multiple 5k and 10k runs.
Marathon training is intense, and with that, the biggest challenge Jack has experienced is injury prevention. Jack noted how dedicating enough time to stretching as mileage increases is crucial to ensure his body is equipped to keep going. Even on the tougher days, Jack continues to stay motivated by remembering the families served by Answer the Call. He shared that he can set his mind to do something temporarily (train, run 10 miles, etc.), but that it is nothing in comparison to the permanence of the situation that Answer the Call’s families have endured.

Seeing the New York City marathon last year, and deciding to run in it himself, Jack looked into different charities people supported which brought him to Answer the Call. As a NYPD detective, Jack is passionate about sponsoring an organization that hits close to home and Answer the Call was a great fit. He shared that one of the biggest lessons he has learned in his career is the importance of approaching difficult situations with a clear and calm mind. He noted that oftentimes in the field, when showing up to difficult scenes, remaining calm and taking control of the circumstance piece by piece has been pivotal in the success of his missions. He strives to maintain this calm and controlled mindset throughout the duration of the marathon as well.
To the families of fallen first responders, Jack shares that he is excited to run and support them. He loves the impact Answer the Call has had and is eager to support in any way he can.
We are thrilled to have Jack on Team Answer the Call!
