Meet our 2025 TCS NYC Marathon Team: Troy Moody

Troy Moody is excited to return to the TCS New York City Marathon this fall, running once again with Team Answer the Call!

Troy grew up with a deep respect for first responders. His father is a career firefighter and currently serves as the Deputy Chief of the City of Ithaca Fire Department. Having a parent in the fire service shaped how Troy sees the world, and he understands firsthand the sacrifices made by those who serve. Now living in New York City, he could not think of a more meaningful cause than supporting the families of first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Troy discovered Answer the Call while searching for a first responder-focused organization to support. He was drawn to its mission and the long-term support it provides to the families of fallen heroes. After running with the team last year, he joined Answer the Call’s Host Committee and now serves on the Associate Committee as well.

Troy first turned to running during the COVID-19 pandemic. Working in finance during such a turbulent time left few outlets for stress, and running quickly became a helpful way to manage it. Since then, it has become a regular part of his life. He ran the Brooklyn Half Marathon and completed the TCS NYC Marathon last year, also with Team Answer the Call. This year, Troy is focused on one thing in particular: pacing. During his last marathon, he started too fast and found the second half of the race especially challenging. Now, he is working on staying steady and consistent so he can finish the race stronger than ever.

Although he typically runs solo, Troy enjoys the camaraderie of the race atmosphere and occasionally finds himself running alongside friends along the way. He usually listens to music or podcasts during training, but for the marathon itself, he prefers to run without headphones. “The crowd and the bands really carry you through the course,” he says. “The atmosphere in New York is unmatched.”

Outside of running, Troy loves to cook, try new restaurants, and explore different cuisines. After last year’s marathon, he celebrated with a plate of chicken wings and a cold beer.

“To the families of fallen first responders: I cannot begin to fathom what it is like to lose a loved one,” Troy shares. “But I want you to know that everyone involved with Answer the Call truly cares. The organization will be there for you for years to come. It is the least we can do as citizens of New York City.”

We are proud to welcome Troy back to Team Answer the Call and are excited to cheer him on this November as he takes on his second NYC Marathon!
