“My husband, Fermin “Sonny” Archer, Jr. was a 1st Grade Detective with the NYPD. His model was “If you need me, I’m there!” and yes, he was true to it. So, true to it, he shrugged it off and went straight back to work that same day. Only to be hospitalized a few hours later with a dissected aorta that ended his life. He left behind his Father, Fermin Sr., our 3 sons, Orlanzo, Michael and Angel, our daughter Tiffany and I lost my best friend, team-mate and confidant. When I received the very first check from the Benefit Fund, it shook me emotionally because it couldn’t have come at a better time. There were so many ceremonies in memory of “Sonny”, travel and hotel accommodation expenses for all of the family members had placed me in a pretty tight financial situation at that time. When I received the check, it took a great load off my shoulder and gave me the peace of mind to breathe and has been doing that ever since. During the Pandemic it made it so much easier financially, to be able to get to his elderly Dad who was affected by the Pandemic in another State, so I could be there to help take care of him. Thank you so very much! Sonny would be so pleased to know, that the New York Police & Fire Widows’ & Children’s Benefit Fund exists on the same model as he did. “IF YOU NEED ME, I’M THERE”. Thank you for being there!”
