BASF Corporation 911 Fund To Top $1 Million; Business Wire

BASF Corporation announced today that its employee-driven donations fund now totals more than $1 million. The fund established to benefit families of police, fire, and emergency service workers lost in the September 11 tragedy was established in the United States. Spontaneously, the fund spread throughout BASF's global operations. Employees from around the world contributed generously in a show of support and solidarity. All employee donations were matched by BASF.

BASF employees immediately felt a deep personal connection to those emergency responders who lost their lives in the tragedy. "Our goal was to specifically designate the funds to aid the survivors of all the brave badged officers who perished in the disaster," said Peter Oakley, Chairman and CEO of BASF Corporation. "We believe that among all the tragic needs created by the events of September 11, helping these families is the best thing that we can do."

BASF has selected the New York Police & Fire Widows' & Children's Benefit Fund (answerthecall.org) as the organization that will be charged with delivering the funds to the designated beneficiaries. This fund was formed in 1985, and for 16 years, has established a record of accomplishments in support of the families of New York's Finest and New York's Bravest lost in the line of duty.

BASF funds will be added to the other funds the Benefit Fund has collected and will be distributed to the families of all the federal, regional, state and city badged officers who were lost while trying to assist in the evacuation of the World Trade Center. Through the efforts of these heroes, a large number of people in the World Trade Center were evacuated to safety.
