As a former college athlete, Anders uses running to stay active. He previously played soccer and enjoys long runs and getting outside for fresh air. Anders has always trained for endurance, so when he gets going, long runs have never felt out of reach.
Last year, Anders ran his first half marathon which turned into a special family gathering! His 64-year-old father flew in from Denmark to run with him and his brother in New York. While he jokes that his dad ran faster than his brother, the experience has always been about having fun, not competition.
New York City’s coldest days are the toughest for training. He runs consistently two to three times a week, but the slippery black ice and snow makes it difficult to maintain his routine. On those days, he sometimes opts to skip a run rather than brave the freezing temperatures. He’s not a fan of treadmills!
From Anders’ last half marathon experience, he understands things get tough. When those moments come, the crowd is always there to cheer him up. It’s one of the biggest differences compared to running alone, and a powerful motivator! He’s reminded that if others facing far greater challenges can keep pushing forward, so can he.
Outside of running, and his long hours in the office, he loves spending time with his family. He often cooks with his wife, goes on long walks with their dog, and still plays sports. He listens to a lot of country music, and Zach Bryan is his favorite artist. He often listens to Zach Bryan while running. After completing a marathon, he likes to unwinds with a glass of beer.
To the families that Answer the Call serves, Anders shares, “It’s easy for me to stay strong because I’m not going through what they are, but I’d say don’t be afraid to ask for help, and have many close friends and family around you”.
We wish you and your family luck in the 2026 New York City United Half Marathon, Anders!
